Black Forest, Germany
After France, we drove into Germany. It was interesting how it felt like a very different country right away. We quickly entered the Black Forest and the trees and hills were so beautiful. It felt like my home in Star Valley, but even more beautiful, which is saying a lot!
Gutach
On our way to Triberg, we stopped in Gutach to ride the mountain coaster. It was so beautiful, and so much fun! I loved that we got to ride UP the mountain on the track before being released at the top to speed down. I couldn't stop laughing the whole way down.

Triberg
We loved the short time we had in Triberg, and we would have loved more time to explore the countryside in the area.
We did a lot of shopping for cuckoo clocks to find the perfect one to bring home--Jon has been wanting to go to the Black Forest and bring home a cuckoo clock for years. There were so many choices: mechanical or battery-powered? (we went for mechanical), with or without music? (with!), 1-day or 8-day winding? (ours is a 1-day.) We finally decided on the first clock we'd loved at the first shop (of course!) Our clock is currently being shipped to us. It will be so fun to set it up when it arrives and have a constant reminder of beautiful Germany!
Our apartment was right in town within walking distance of shops and museums and the Triberg Waterfall (and across from a grocery store, which was super convenient.) I made shnitzel with noodles for dinner and we ate it while listening to The Sound of Music (I know, not German, but it felt like it fit!)
The Triberg waterfall was gorgeous and just kept going and going. The path zig-zagged up the mountain and every time it came up to the waterfall there was a new view.
Jon and Jacob enjoyed some runs in the mountains. It was hard not to just take pictures of every view we saw!

Freiberg
We took a train to Freiberg and walked around Old Town. We enjoyed the views of the countryside on the train ride and we always love Old Towns.
Titisee
We parked here for our train ride and enjoyed walking around the shops and seeing the lake.
Schiltach
On our drive to Heidelberg, we stopped at the quaint little town of Schiltach. We couldn't get enough of the character and charm everywhere in Germany!

We also stopped at this fun park before leaving the Black Forest. The tall walkway through the trees and huge slide were lots of fun. Jacob was brave enough to order us some fries in German--but the worker just looked at him funny then asked what he wanted in English. :) Jacob was bummed not to have more chances to try out his German because everyone could tell we were Americans so they just spoke to us in English!
Heidelberg and the Autobahn
