We tried to be really intentional about our Christmas Eve this year and make it a special evening. During the day we hung out and the kids enjoyed following Santa's progress toward our house on the computer. Jon and I also rearranged our house a little to make the room off the kitchen into a game room to prepare for lots of family games this year!
We planned a special dinner with everyone's favorites (including homemade noodles, mashed potatoes, beef roast, Rhodes rolls, and pumpkin pie!) and took part in our neighborhood's luminary lighting.
This year all the kids bought presents for each other and we did our family gift exchange on Christmas Eve. Jon and I got gifts from Megan and Jacob and we gave the kids some special gifts as well. It was so fun to see how excited the kids were to give each other gifts and it was really wonderful evening!
Then we reenacted the story of Christ's birth while Jon read from the New Testament. Megan started out as Mary with Jacob as the donkey and Katie as an angel, then Megan became a shepherd with a fluffy sheep and Katie became our Mary. :)
Katie was really excited to make the plate for Santa and his reindeer just right! This year we hung our stockings on the railing on the landing by our bedrooms and told the kids that they could wake up and see their stockings whenever they wanted, but no one was allowed downstairs to see the tree until we were all awake!
